My dear reader,
We are getting closer and closer to the day when SkyNet will become self aware. Sorry I had to get a Terminator joke in. But in all seriousness folks, social networking sites like Facebook have taken over our lives in the last few years. It all started with Myspace way back when and then Facebook popped up and became a huge hit.
I love Facebook. I love it a lot. It's a great way of keeping up with friends and family. But folks, Facebook use has become quite ridiculous. Let me explain. Today as I was checking my Newsfeed on my Home page and noticed that my underaged friend had posted and tagged herself in pictures that clearly showed her taking shots of what I suspect to be vodka. I thought she was smart. Clearly I was wrong. Of course I don't think she was deliberately attempting to make herself look stupid, but these days it seems that our desire to show the world what we are doing overpowers our brains. Somewhere along the line Facebook shut down our brain's natural filters. My fellow Internet users this kind of idiotic behavior must end. In a time when employers routinely check Facebook profiles as part of a background check, such behavior should not happen. One image could ruin your life forever. Don't be fooled by Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian. Their sex tapes helped them but do you really want to be a card carrying member of the People Who are Only Famous for Sex Tapes Club? Nope I didn't think so.
Being a teenager is great. I love every second of it but for the potential of our generation please stop putting every second of your life on Facebook. I really don't need to know. Nor does the rest of the world.
I'm playing catch up with your most recent posts so ignore the lateness of this comment.
ReplyDeleteWhat about TV shows like Gossip Girl where the stars are hitting a club in every episode? Or all those shows about Freshmen at college parties? Yes, the actors are old enough to drink but they are portraying younger people who are not supposed to be drinking. I think this really says something about TV production and the public opinion. If the age 21 drinking law exists then why is the government not enforcing it? If everyone on TV under 21 is drinking then what exactly are kids going to think? "Well is Sarena Wanderwoldson can drink on Gossip Girl without getting in any trouble at all, then it's okay for me to do it too!" So here we have that some-what age old question, should the drinking age be changed because no one really follows it anyway?
And your right about FB, which I just realized is what your who post was about. (I often latch onto one thing and go with it.) I think people need to be MUCH more careful but lets face it, adolecense is a fragile time when kids who want the world to see them as grown up's will do whatever it takes. And if that means drinking and posting pictures ... why not? FB is just a vehicle by which they can do that. I think the real question is what is the right age for people to start using FB in order to remain safe from future embarrasment.
