Miss America says: World Peace

It's long been the joke that if a pageant contestant wanted to come across as caring she would have to say something along the lines of "I wish for world peace." If this is the first time you have ever heard of this then I recommend watching "Miss Congeniality" starring Sandra Bullock and Benjamin Bratt. Now while that thought may be nice, we still have to face the fact that at this stage of our historical timeline world peace is not an option. I haven't watched a pageant in a very long time so I'm not sure of the latest trend in 'wishes', perhaps something along the lines of Darfur or poverty or the children...who knows. My point is that while it is a nice sentiment, it simply isn't possible and to imagine that it is, is a bit naive. I am not going to be the total pessimist and say stuff like "wars will never end and the world will burn in flames" no I am not a doomsday prophet. It is a matter of being realistic. In evry part of the world, even here in the United States, there are conflicts that are raging with seemingly no end. Some of the conflicts are more evident than others, but underheath the surface of every country their is something simmering, waiting to explode. In Spain there is the Basque separatist movement which has been going on a bombing campaign. In Belgium the French speaking Belgians have issues with the Dutch speaking Beligians and vice versa. Even the most 'stable' countries have conflicts making the hope of world peace difficult. If you like continue to hope while I will continue to watch.
